“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

John 14:12-13

Going Beyond

During a recent visit to one of my favorite bookstores, I took some time to see how many titles related to helping people accomplish or achieve greater financial status, superior ability, or a simply a better quality of life. The results were astounding! Myriads of books lined the shelves, all promising keen insight to revolutionize your life. These very compelling titles and endorsements grabbed my attention, but the longer I read, the more I realized their promises were empty.

You see, it wasn’t that wisdom revealed inside the pages couldn’t help with weight loss, starting a business, establishing a long-term savings plan, or even creating a greater sense of personal self-worth. The problem was that while none of these things, in and of themselves, were wrong, they are not foundational principles for a satisfying life. The world is filled with miserable people who are wealthy, successful, and accomplished. The only life worth living is a life connected to the Lord Jesus Christ. Not only is Jesus Christ willing to forgive all of your sins and indwell you with His Holy Spirit, but He wants you to find satisfaction in living for Him.

Jesus was and is the God/Man of the Universe, and yet here we read He promises those who believe in Him will be able to do what He did in even greater scope and capacity. Through seeking Him in prayer, He desires to live His work in and through us so that the Father will be glorified. Now that’s the kind of life that’s worth living. While we may read these verses and gloss over them, I believe that RIGHT NOW Jesus is looking for people He can live His very life through so that they will be satisfied and He will be glorified. If your life could use some more satisfaction, why not seek the One who promises to fulfill you?

PRAYER

Jesus, today I am Yours. I believe that You died and rose for me and I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Please fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit and use my life for Your glory. If there is any sin or hindrance in my life that is keeping me from my best, please reveal them to me so that I may confess them to You. Lord, I look to You because You are the ONLY ONE worthy of my praise, attention, and adoration. May You be glorified in my life. Amen.
