Keep Walking

Let’s face it… Life is difficult. Just because someone is a believer in Christ, it does not mean that difficulties and challenges will not appear. As a matter of fact, their likelihood is imminent. Regardless of geography, heritage, background, preferences, or abilities, difficulties will simply be a part of our journey until the day we meet our glorious Lord and Savior face to face. In this short verse, God provides great instruction for how we should respond when we are facing hardship.

  1. KEEP WALKING. The Psalmist says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.” He is saying that He is aware that he is going into a place he doesn’t want to go, but he still keeps on walking. In other words, even when things are bad, don’t stop being on mission. Don’t worry. Don’t call your friends and complain. Just keep on going. Don’t stop. Don’t give up.
  2. GOD IS WITH YOU. The Psalmist states the reason he can keep walking is because, “I fear no evil, for You are with me.” The Psalmist isn’t naïve enough to believe that evil is not near, but rather that in the midst of evil God is with him. The central comfort to believers is that God is with us. His Holy Spirit indwells us, and everywhere we go, we are assured that God is right there with us. So, look to God who is right with you in your current situation.
  3. GOD PROTECTS YOU. The Psalmist states that not only is God near, but that, “Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Simply put: God is not only available, but is more than able to help in your time of need. The rod was a club or cudgel used as a weapon to fend off enemies, and the staff was used by the shepherd to provide direction for the sheep. God knows where He is leading you, and He can fend off all your enemies along the way. This brings us peace even in the middle of a major storm.

Whatever you are facing today that may be causing you anxiety, fear, or doubt, it is no reason to stop serving the LORD. God is Sovereign. Everything you are facing was designed by Him and He is walking with you and will protect you even in the midst of your enemies. Trust Him today because He loves you.

PRAYER

Jesus. Thank you for encouraging me to continue to walk with You. I believe that You are with me and You are protecting me today. Even though things are difficult right now, I am living with confidence because I trust that You have my best interest at heart. May today be a day where I glorify You by continuing to give You my best in all I do. Amen.
