I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Psalm 34:1

Praising Jesus

During this time of the year, I enjoy listening to Christmas music. The familiar songs engender happy memories, special family moments, and most importantly, a love for Jesus Christ. While I enjoy almost all Christmas music, I have a special appreciation for songs which tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. Often when I am driving down the road, I find myself singing these traditional songs.

God loves when we praise Him, because we are declaring our dependency on Him. In other words, we are stating that He is worthy and we are needy. When David penned Psalm 34:1, he was declaring his willingness to praise the Lord at all times. He wanted to bless God. Blessing God literally meant to bow, kneel, or be in a humble position of worship. For David, worship was not a cavalier activity to pass the time, but rather a way of life that demonstrated dependence on the Lord.

What comes out of your mouth on a regular basis? I want to remind you that what you celebrate and discuss is often a reflection of what your heart deems important. God wants us to have him in the forefront of our minds and to have praise for Him on our lips. May God grow each and every one of us in our consistent worship of Him.

PRAYER

Dear Jesus. May the joy I experience in You overwhelm me and cause me to bow in humble adoration. May I delight in speaking praises about You as the only true God. I love You and want to spend my days praising You. Amen.
