“Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
Psalm 23:6

Pursued
I remember in the days when I first met my wife that I would consistently call her, talk about her with my friends and even make up excuses to go and visit her. She was the focus of my constant attention. I literally could not stop thinking about her and spent all my time pursuing her.
In Psalm 23, David is convinced that God is not only a Good Shepherd who provides and protects those who are His, but He pursues them with His loyal love. Sometimes we may falsely believe that we pursue God so that we can experience His blessings, but the reality is that God pursues us so that we can abide in Him.
This perspective of God’s love towards us rattles our understanding because the more we learn about our great God the more we realize that we are not worthy of being pursued. However, God in His grace continues to chase us down with His goodness and mercy because of His relationship with us.
Finally, David reminds us that this pursuit ends with us being in the presence of Almighty God forever. While we will experience glimpses of God’s goodness here on earth one day we will literally dwell with the Living God and enjoy Him forever. May we yearn about the Day that is to come!
PRAYER
Jesus. Thank you so much that even though I am so unworthy of being pursued, You continue to demonstrate your mercy and grace to me. I rest in the fact that your love for me is based on the redemptive work of Jesus and not in my good works. Today as I am reminded of your love for me I rest in your love for me. I am grateful that today you are pursuing me! Amen.
