Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.

Turn From Evil
The Proverbs provide great wisdom for godly living in our world. Oftentimes the Proverbs provide a practical means for us to enjoy God and walk in His ways in a world that is often hostile to Him. The bottom line: There is great benefit to putting God’s Word into practice.
In this specific Proverb, we are instructed to NOT be wise in our own eyes. This short statement cuts across our ingrained pride that desires to let others know that our intelligence and skills are superior to others. God warns us NOT to do this. Instead, we are to consider the glory of the Lord and to fear Him.
Fearing the Lord involves giving God reverence, honor, glory, and praise. By considering His Majesty and His Glorious Splendor, we have no other option than to humble ourselves before Him. Understanding His greatness and that one day we will give an account for our lives causes us to shun evil and live for Him. The result is refreshment and healing in our lives!
May you be encouraged today to pause and consider the Greatness of our Almighty God.
PRAYER
Dear Jesus. May I put your greatness today ahead of everything else. Instead of looking to myself, may my life give you praise and may I appreciate your Splendor and Majesty. Lord, as I look to you, give me a desire to turn away from all evil so that You will be glorified in and through me. For Your glory. Amen.
