Turn to my reproof, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.

Reproof

When we think of good friends we often consider those who walked through a difficult situation with us, comforted us in our discouragement, or celebrated us when we were successful. However, the Bible points out a friend that is available to every one of us if we are willing to listen to him. The name of that friend is “Reproof.”

Reproof is the friend that demands correction because the way that you are heading is opposite of God’s best. Reproof does not consider a person’s pedigree, stature, standing, prominence or experience. Reproof simply demands an immediate course correction to get right with the Lord.

The benefits of reproof are wisdom, teaching, discipline, honor, and life. The neglect of reproof will lead to dishonor, shame, devastation, and even death. However, just knowing this truth is not enough to enjoy the blessings of reproof. Follow these four steps below to enjoy the benefits of reproof.

1. You must admit you need reproof. We all do but so few can actually articulate their need for it. Can you? I encourage you to speak out loud right now where you are reading this that you need reproof in your life.

2. You must welcome reproof. There must be a humble posture in your life where you are willing to receive reproof because God may choose to bring reproof from someone you don’t even like. Only the humble can welcome reproof.

3. Who can reprove you? Literally…What are their names? Who in your life do you allow to tell you things you don’t want to hear? Hopefully, you can come up with 5-10 names off the top of your head. If not, go and find some people right now.

4. Consistently allow God’s Word to reprove you. If you are humble God will show you what you need to change.

May God use reproof in your life to grow you into His instrument of grace.

PRAYER

Dear Jesus. I admit my need for reproof and welcome it in my life. Use your Word and other people in my life to reprove me so that I may reflect you. Lord, let me be humble enough to receive your truth in my life at all times. Amen.
