Now the word of the LORD came to me saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.

The Calling

God is our Sovereign and Creator God so that all things, both visible and invisible, were created by Him and for Him. When it comes to His people, Scripture is very clear that He created every human being with a purpose. For those who are believers in Jesus Christ, we have an eternal-heavenly purpose and calling to honor the Lord. While it’s true that not all of God’s people are called to be prophets, everyone is endowed with a unique destiny.

Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we (His church) are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which He prepared for us beforehand so that we would walk in them. In other words, God created each believer to be a part of His Body and to serve in such a way that He would receive the most glory in and through us. Knowing what God has called us for makes a big difference.

If my calling is to be a husband, wife, father, mother, coach, teacher, pastor, salesman, or accountant I need to understand how to be the best for God at what I am called to do. The benefit of knowing and fulfilling my calling is personal joy and blessing to those I serve. On the other hand, not fulfilling my calling will bring great amounts of pain to those I was intended to serve.

Think about it: If I fail in my calling as a parent my children get hurt. If I failing in my calling as a husband or wife, my spouse gets hurt. If I fail in my vocational calling, those I am supposed to serve and elevate will suffer. The point is, God is calling me to be my best in the roles that I have been given in order to serve others like Christ.

Are you fulfilling your calling? Is there any way you could become more of a servant in your current roles?

PRAYER

Dear Jesus. Thank you for giving my life purpose. I pray that every role that you have given to me I may steward well as I serve others. May those whom I impact grow more in love with you because they have spent time with me. Amen.
