And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and he kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied.

You Can Trust Him

When Jesus asked His disciples to feed the masses, they complained that it would cost too much money and take too much time. However, Jesus didn’t change His mind on what He asked them to do. So, the disciples found five loaves and two fish and brought them to Jesus. Because we have heard this story so many times, we can miss the fact that bringing Jesus five loaves and two fish would be like bringing three tents to solve a city-wide homeless problem.

One may consider that Jesus would have said, “Seriously, that’s all you got?” or, “Go find some more food and then come back!” But that’s not what happened at all! Jesus took the meager portions, blessed them, broke them, and kept giving them to the disciples. It didn’t matter to Jesus “how” much they brought, but that they brought what they had. No matter what they had brought, they would not have been able to feed the masses.

You see, Jesus works with our inabilities, insufficiencies, and inadequacies because He has no other choice. He wants us to come to Him and bring Him all that we have so that He can work in and through us. On the day the disciples brought Him bread and fish, everyone ate and was satisfied. God can take what we give him so that He can accomplish His purposes in and through us. YOU CAN TRUST HIM!

PRAYER

Dear Jesus. Thank You for being someone who is completely reliable and trustworthy. I pray that in the upcoming year that I will grow in my trust of You in all things. May You use my inabilities, insufficiencies, and inadequacies for Your glory! Amen.
